Since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression, the EU has established a dense network of financial and economic sanctions. In practice, these sanctions are often interpreted too broadly, resulting in lawful transactions, services, or releases of funds being blocked—particularly in correspondent banking. Some of these responses raise questions about their compatibility with fundamental principles of EU law.
